Presentation

Today we had to present our full idea to the class, also taking in mind a list of other topics we need to cover in our site specific presentation. By doing this, it let Ella know how clear our idea is and how many more actors we may need, also she and others can mention ways to improve the scene/props/costume and set if it is necessary. It's mainly to help completely set the scene.

First Set Group Idea For Churchyard!

I am a scene leader with Nathan. We are working together to create a scene for the Churchyard in Hitchin. We will be having Amber and Danni from the first year class to fill in for the acting in our scene.

We have two first years called Danni, and Amber. They will be our actors in our scene as well as me and Nathan. We do not know yet if we will have more actors joining our scene as well but we have an open mind to not expect that we will have some more actors and too make the scene work whether we have more people or not.

Our group also has a Facebook page to post information and pictures for evidence.

Our Idea:

The basis of our idea is to set it in a 'quarantine' area, with officers and scanners. This is an idea to have people checking other people if they have been bitten by the zombies and if they are clean. We thought about it having a sad but sick minded feel to it because those two feelings are felt in the scene. A family being separated and a father losing his wife and child, how that could feel very sad but sick minded for people to take them away with no sympathy towards it. We wrote up a beginning, middle and an end to help us with a rough idea of what will happen in the scene:

Beginning:

- Guards take in audience / scan them / check for bites / see if any have virus. (but the audience will not be taken into the marquee, that is only used for people who have been affected).
- As that is happening, the parents with the baby are trying to casually walk past so that they are not noticed and they will be behind the audience, (but not directly behind) as they walk past.
- As they walk past they are noticed by a guard and told to stay right where they are.

Middle:

- Parents act like they have already been checked and that they are fine / they are lying / more the mother lying than the father.
- Try to distract guards / kind of involving the audience.
- Guards eventually manage to convince the family that they need to be checked.

(We also had this idea that the father has no clue that the baby has the zombie virus, but the mother does know and she doesn't want to be scanned because she doesn't want the baby taken away from her and the father)

End:

- Baby scanned first / with virus
- Father will not admit the scanner works, he thinks there is something wrong / does not believe the baby has a virus.
- They check again on the baby and it still says the baby has the virus.
- They then check the father to prove him the machine works by saying that he has not got the virus.
- The mother is then scanned and has no virus.
- The mother will not give the baby back and they are trying to take the baby away, as they snatch the baby off the mother, the baby bites the mother which then affects her and one by one the mother and baby are taken away from the father.

We thought by making the baby only having the virus at first would tug at the heart strings more and also then having the baby bite the mother makes it more dramatic and meaningful.

Characters:

Mother: we feel she should be very emotional, and very direct with what her mindset is. She should be very attached to the child, and want to do anything for the child even though the child has the power to effect the whole of the world. Over dramatic with her emotions also.

Father: we feel the father should be a little more relaxed and have a more positive outlook. But very emotional and saddened when the mother and baby are taken away from him. But very chilled and willing to be scanned in the first place.

Security Guard & Scanner: we feel these people should have no sympathy. Be very numb towards people, not show emotion and feelings. Very harsh and mentally numb. Get the job done, it's no difference to them who it is.

We have also taken into consideration that:

  • Our piece is in an outside/open space.
  • The weather could affect the performance / audience's decision whether to stay and watch.
  • No ingredients for the players will be here / competitive people may leave.
  • No zombie's will be in our scene.
  • It can be hard to attract audience because we are in an open space.
Props:

  • Marquee (provided by amber)
  • possibly body bags
  • scanners (Danni can provide this on her phone / an app)
  • pram possibly for the baby?
  • security badges
  • fake blood
  • plastic sheeting
  • baby doll
  • signs
Costumes: First ideas

  • Hoodies for the parents to hide faces
  • Security badges/hats
  • blanket to wrap baby doll in
  • glow in the dark vest?

Zombie Quest

We are working with the company 'TRIGGER' on a site specific piece called 'Zombie Quest'. This will take place in Hitchin on the 31st of October 2015 for Halloween.

About Zombie Quest:
http://zombiequest.org.uk/store

Zombie Quest is a live, interactive game for ages 18+ taking place in and around Hitchin town centre on the 31st October - players can choose to take part as either humans or zombies.

Zombies are coming to Hitchin on 31st October as part of charity fundraising for Hitchin Tilehouse Rotary Club.

So basically, it is a game. What you have to do is sign up to play the game or be a zombie. If you are playing the game, you have three lives and you have to survive the game to win! The story behind is that a mad scientist mixed up all his potions and accidentally injected himself which caused him to become a zombie! Now they are fleeting across the whole of Hitchin and all the ingredients to stop them is hidden around parts of Hitchin which the players need to find! Around the circuit there will be many places for players to find these ingredients and be spooked on the way....

To be a zombie you also have to sign up and you get trained up on Saturday 24th October on 'how to be a zombie'. If you are a zombie, the aim of the game is too stop the players getting the ingredients and take their lives away!

All in all, it is for a very good cause and is very fun. I cannot wait too do it as it is something very different to anything I have ever done before and anything we have done in the course.
